Thoughtful Sunday

The 2010 Olympics ends tonight. Strange how well you get to know the different athletes through the tv set or computer. I'm proud of my teams.... whether they be the US, Canada, Poland or whoever else it is that fought hard and reached their moment of glory to partake in these games. I am amazed by this powerful event. At being able to gather people from all cultures, religions, parts of the world that are so different and believe in things so unsimilar. And yet, the camaraderie that everyone and throughout the globe feels is beyond words. How wonderful it would be if we can live and continue to live in this Olympic world.

During my early morning jaunts through the internet, I stumbled across a wonderful blogsite by The Little Red Hen. I ended up spending all my alone time just going through her posts after post. Her work is inspiring and her sunday thoughts and pictures of the day are very much thought provoking. As my mom-in-law picked up the kids for church, I realized that my Sundays are usually a bedlam of thoughts centered around speed and time or lack thereof. So I've decided that for this and every other day of Sabbath, I will slow down for just a small moment and meditate on me and what's around me. For this first posting, I'd like to quote Little Red Hen's posting of Daring Leaps in keeping with the closing of the Olympics.

Oh no!

I'm really enjoying the Olympics and was upset at Apollo Ohno's disqualification last nite from the 500m race. Unfortunately I fell asleep and was not able to watch the team relay but am glad that US still won a medal. I'll have to watch out for a video of the race somewhere later... I can't wait for the hockey match tomorrow and am not sure who I am going to cheer for, being a Canadian and an American both.

In the meanwhile, I just found the picture of another baby quilt that I had made for my boss' daughter. The theme of her room is a sea theme in blue. I mixed it with coral just so that it will give it some girly look. Do you guys think I accomplished it?

I am happy at the hits that I am getting on my etsy site and I am in the process of adding a couple of PC sorority pillows on the list. Unfortunately, I made a mistake on the letters of the NPHC sorority pillow that I had made and now have to do it all over.

I have also decided that I will do a drawing every month and give away a jewelry item from my follower list. So make sure that you forward my blog link to your friends and families and make sure to comment on my posts! I do love feedbacks! Luckily, I have a couple of followers and so for you two, one of you may receive something in the beginning of March!

Bugs Getting Buzzed

Work had a staff social a couple of weeks ago at the arts and crafts center and here is the plate that I had decorated.
Of course, when I asked my husband what I should title this post, he said "2 ladybugs and a pot leaf". He said that the leaf looked like a marijuana leaf and the spirals are "tripy" swirls. Of course, I got mad because I worked hard on my little "nature" plate! Guess I'm not much of a pottery painter!

Grand Opening!!

I finally opened my etsy shop showcasing my decorative pillows for the Multicultural Greek Sororities at UF. I have not forgotten the Kappa Phi Lambdas and will get a pillow up as soon as it is finished. I'm still cutting out the appliques. I will move on to the NPHC sororities next and then on to the Panhellenic. However, I am excited that there are some other people from other organizations that have asked me to make some for them too. It looks like I'll be kept busy for a while.

I have also received word that the babies have received the quilts that I made for them! Here is one of them pictured with her on her quilt. I am especially excited at how happy her Mommy was at receiving her gift. It was well worth the effort!

Up and Down and All Around

I'm still working on the moving up of my studio from a small closet space downstairs to the guest bedroom upstairs. I have to admit that I am sore from the many trips up and down the stairs and even the kids have given up regardless of money offered. I've been enjoying watching the Olympics and to keep me busy while I watch I have produced some decorative pillows for a show that I want to participate in. I've made one for all MGC sororities in UF except for the one with the red color... unfortunately, the UF/MGC link was broken so I wasn't able to get the name. Here are my creations and hopefully they'll sell. I will make one for every sorority... on to NPHC then Panhellenic??
With the labor and materials, I will price these at $18 each. Contact me if interested!

No More Guests??

Hubby just told me that I can have the guest bedroom and turn it into my studio space!! Woohoo!! I'm so excited but a little apprehensive... It's ALOT of work. I decided to start with the closet which was the kids little play closet. Here's the space.
As you can see, I've already started moving some upholstery material on the bottom of the white shelf. I'll take another picture of the aftermath. For now, it'll be many trips up and down the stairs

Odds and Ends

This weekend was busy with alot of odds and ends projects. I repaired jewelry for my best friend and also made ribbon necklaces for all the bottle cap pendants that we had made from a couple of weekends ago. I finished quilting both of the baby quilts pieced from last weekend and now have to start the binding... Here is the quilting shot from the back of the quilts.
I also made a dozen earrings all in varying hues of reds and pinks just in time for Valentine's Day! If you are interested, email me! They're only $6 a pair!!

And finally, I pieced some more squares from the scrap bag that my Mom-in-law gave me last weekend. Here's what it looks like with all of them laid out. The row on the very front is still a work in progress...

Bag Full of Scraps

My mom-in law brought me this bag full bag of scraps. Yummy!
I dove right into it and was able to make eight 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" squares.
Here they are:

Here's my inspiration.
There were also alot of little pieces too small to piece and what I did was weave them together to create a cloth. I used old 'bounce' dryer sheets as the backing. I absolutely loved how it turned out. It smells fantastic too! What a recycling job!
