Weekend Yardwork

I love to drive around them really nice neighborhoods or look at pictures to get landscaping inspiration. 

I noticed that all the yards that I fell in love with involved borders and lots and lots of mulch.

I've always been a little bit intimidated with the work involved because I have almost 3 acres.

So I approached one of the landscaper people that comes around my neighborhood to get an estimate of how much it would cost just to do my front yard. 

I was not the first one home when the landscapers stuck the estimate on the door.

My husband just looked at me and said...."yeah, right!".

So I guess that means the border mulching is in my hands!  O_O

I knew that this was the weekend for bordering when I drove up Friday after work and saw this...

Notice that the mulch is wider and about as tall as the hubby's car!
 

I decided to start at the front by the driveway.

This is what it looked like before.

Yeah, the grass is long. 

It's been raining every day so hubby couldn't tackle the mowing until this weekend.

 

And I know that my Sabal Palms are hurting but I just planted them a little over a week ago.

I am hoping that they live.

Excuse the real ugly netting around the Fringe tree. 

That's to keep our deer friends from eating it!

 

 I used Christy's technique on her blog Confessions of a Serial Do-It-Yourselfer.
Except after a while I gave up on the newspaper.  I just got too lazy.

 The process was easy but the hard ground wasn't very cooperative.
I know I sweated a couple gallons!

I didn't get to finish because the wheelbarrow broke...

and it started to drizzle about the same time..

So it will have to wait a little bit more..

But it's looking better, don't you think?  =o)
