Day 10: Carabao

The road to the Underground was a one lane highway which is pretty much like the road pictured from my last post.  It is very scenic and Beth (our tour guide) was very knowledgeable about the area, statistics, points of interest and history.  As we chitchatted with her, she tells us that most tour guides that work for respected companies in the P.I. only employ guides that have gone through school and have a degree in tourism.  So needless to say, she pretty much had an answer to every question that we posed to her.

Beth told us that because of the location of the Palawan islands, the climate is consistent all year through although they have the 2 seasons of dry and rainy.  But even during the rainy seasons, they are protected enough by the mountains that severe storms just pass  by.  This is why you will find many nipa huts (dwellings made out of  bamboo and nipa leaves)  all over the place.

At our very first picture stop, we were excited to see a carabao grazing.  It was the first time for the kids to see a carabao and especially up close!  For those of you that don't know, the carabao (click here) is the official animal of the Philippines.
